I am the only user of this computer (with a Microsoft account) and the account type is 'Administrator'. I inspect the security tab under the properties of the drive, and I see 'SYSTEM' and 'Administrators' have full access and control, as well as a rogue 'unknown' account beginning with letter 'S' and a bunch of characters. (By the way, the current D: is the former F:, which got the drive letters swapped). Now, I can only access the C: drive and, curiously, the D:, but not the E: to G. But the hassle was so strong I regret doing that: turns out the previous installation assigned an user identity to each partition (SID?).

The partitions are C:, D:, E:, F: and G.Įventually I had to format my C: drive to get a fresh Windows installation. I use the C: partition for the OS and the others for data, backup, and so on. On Windows 10, however, the app will remain a per-user install and the legacy version will become hidden from the Start Menu (no shortcuts to it), but users could still browse the Windows sub-folders and launch it from the EXE manually.I have a Windows 10 PC with five hard drives, each one functioning as a partition. For Windows 11 only, they have also confirmed in the next major-update (22H2), the new app will be shipped as part of the OS, and will become a per-machine type install, and so when updated in the Store, will be up-to-date for all users. (Or if you use either the Store for Business or Store for Eduction versions of the Store app, it will be made-available in there soon also.)Some good-news offered: the UAC prompt requirement is being addressed on both Windows 10 and 11, and the Control + Windows + Q key-sequence will also launch the new version soon also. If you could manage to get the '.appx' installer-file for the new Quick Assist manually, then you could use the Add-AppxPackage command in PowerShell to deploy it.
